After nearly two decades at the club, Lucas Vázquez has officially said goodbye to Real Madrid, marking the end of an era. The 34-year-old’s contract has expired, and for the first time in his career, he becomes a free agent.

Vázquez, who joined Real Madrid’s academy in 2007 at just 16 years old from Velez, rose through the youth ranks before making a name for himself in the senior squad. Following a loan spell at Espanyol, he returned to the Bernabéu and became a reliable and versatile figure for Los Blancos — excelling both as a winger and later as a right-back.

Over the course of his career at the club, Vázquez made 402 appearances, scored 38 goals, and contributed 73 assists. Notably, he converted a key penalty in the 2016 UEFA Champions League final against Atlético Madrid and played a pivotal role in last season’s thrilling 3-2 win over Barcelona, where he both scored and assisted.

A Career Full of Silverware and Loyalty

During his 17-year tenure, Vázquez collected an impressive haul of trophies:

    • 🏆 5 Champions League titles
    • 🏆 4 La Liga titles
    • 🏆 1 Copa del Rey
    • 🏆 12 Supercup trophies (including Spanish and UEFA Super Cups)

His dedication and professionalism made him a beloved figure in the dressing room and among fans, even if he was often overshadowed by bigger names.

Tributes and Tears at Farewell Ceremony

In an emotional farewell ceremony hosted by Real Madrid, club president Florentino Pérez described Lucas as “one of us,” highlighting his journey from the academy to the first team.

Vázquez took the opportunity to thank his wife, Macarena Rodríguez, in a heartfelt tribute:

“Without you, none of this would’ve been possible. You’ve supported me through every challenge, laughed and cried with me. You are my peace, my partner, and my strength. I’ll never be able to thank you enough,” he said, visibly emotional.

    A Final Message to Madridistas

Lucas also shared a moving message to the fans and the club, expressing his deep gratitude:

“This is one of the most important days of my life. Thank you to every fan for every gesture, every clap, every moment of support. I’ve lived my dream here. I’ve been happy, respected, and loved.”

“I may be leaving the club, but Real Madrid will always be mine. I am — and always will be — Lucas Vázquez, a youth player of Real Madrid.”
