Jack Grealish Returns to Individual Training at Manchester City Amid Uncertainty Over Future

    By FNR2 weeks ago
    Jack Grealish

Jack Grealish is set to return to Manchester City’s training ground this week, where he will begin individual sessions at the City Football Academy. However, his comeback does little to resolve the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, as speculation over a potential departure continues to grow.

The England international was left out of City’s squad for the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this summer and is now expected to train separately from the main group while the club and his representatives assess possible next steps — whether a reintegration into Pep Guardiola’s plans or a move elsewhere.

Sources indicate that City are open to facilitating a loan move for the former Aston Villa captain, provided a suitable financial structure can be agreed upon. A permanent transfer is considered unlikely due to Grealish’s high wages and the club’s valuation of the player. While there have been informal enquiries from various clubs, none have progressed to advanced negotiations.

According to The Telegraph’s Matt Law, Grealish has now agreed to return to City for individual training, at least until the full squad reconvenes. Interest in the 29-year-old has emerged both domestically and abroad. West Ham have reportedly explored a loan option, though any move may hinge on Lucas Paquetá’s future and the preferences of head coach Graham Potter.

Meanwhile, in Italy, Napoli manager Antonio Conte is understood to admire Grealish and is seeking a left-sided attacker. However, the player’s wages are viewed as a major obstacle, and the Serie A champions are also considering other options.

Grealish’s situation has become one of the most unpredictable storylines of City’s summer. His limited involvement during the closing stages of the 2024/25 season — combined with City’s push to refresh their attacking options — has seen his status at the club diminish. The arrivals of Rayan Cherki and the anticipated repositioning of Phil Foden signal a shift in City’s wide play strategy.

While a potential switch to West Ham appeared to gain traction earlier in the week, internal club sources have reportedly expressed concerns over the player’s profile, suggesting a deal is unlikely.

Manchester City are under no pressure to offload Grealish but remain open to discussions, particularly if a suitor is willing to absorb a significant portion of his wages. If no move materialises before the new campaign, Grealish is expected to remain on the fringes of the squad — unless his physical form or tactical value undergoes a notable revival.
